Closure of missions abroad

Following a decision by the Government in November, a number of Swedish embassies and consulates will be phased out.

Swedish Embassy in Gaborone, Botswana

The Embassy in Gaborone has now closed and the Embassy in Pretoria, South Africa, has taken over its operations. An honorary consulate is being established in Gaborone. The Swedish Trade Council has opened an office in Gaborone to facilitate the operations of Swedish companies in Botswana.

Swedish Consulate-General in Gdansk, Poland

The Consulate-General in Gdansk is now closed and in Poland the Embassy in Warsaw has taken over its operations. Sweden has opened an honorary consulate in Gdansk.

Swedish Consulate-General in Phuket, Thailand

The Consulate-General's services for the general public in Phuket have ceased and the Consulate will be closed down entirely on 30 June. The Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, has taken over responsibility and an honorary consulate has been opened in Phuket.

Swedish Embassy in Manila, the Philippines

The Embassy in Manila is also closing on 30 June and services to the public there have also been largely phased out.

An honorary consulate-general will open in the middle of June in Manila.

The Embassy in Bangkok will have overall responsibility.
