Opening session of the Forum for the Future of Democracy

The first day of the Council of Europe "Forum for the Future of Democracy was held in the Swedish Riksdag (Parliament). One of the opening speeces was given by Mr Vuc Jeremic´ Minister for Foreign Affairs, Serbia (picture).

Forum in Action

The Second day's discussions took place at four different venues in Sigtuna and on four different sub-themes. There were discussions on exclusion from influencing the decisions affecting peoples everyday lives, gender equality and shared power and the possibilities of the involvement of civil society. Tools for systematic work to promote democracy and full respect for human rights and if e-Democracy has a role to play in this field, was also discussed.

Conclusions of the Forum

The third day of the Forum was dedicated to reflections and conclusions. The outcome of the four sub-themes was presented. The Forum ended by the invitation to next years Forum in Madrid, Spain 2008.

Forum 2008 in Spain

The 2008 session of the Council of Europe's Forum for the Future of Democracy will take place in Madrid (Spain), on 15-17 October, at the Municipal Congress Centre, one of the largest congress facilities in Europe.

The 2008 Forum will be hosted by the Spanish Ministry of Public Administrations, with the support of the Mayor Office of Madrid. The proposed main theme for this session of the Forum is "E-Governance".

Forum for the Future of Democracy is arranged by Council of Europe and hosted by the Government of Sweden, the Swedish parliament and the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions.
